Alleged Harasser Inquired: 'Yet What If I Might Be Madeleine?'

Julia Wandelt, twenty-four, who court testimony revealed has consistently asserted she was the disappeared Madeleine McCann, and her co-defendant are standing trial accused with stalking Kate and Gerry McCann between June 2022 and February 2025.
On Monday, Leicester Crown Court learned communication data and evidence retrieved from phones recorded Ms Wandelt consistently requesting Madeleine's mother for a DNA test over the past two years.
Madeleine's case in 2007 - at the age of three during a trip in Portugal - is considered the most publicized missing child cases and is still open.
'I Do Not Need Money'
Another phone message, presented in court, captured Ms Wandelt stating: "I understand I'm overweight and unattractive like Madeleine was, but I believe what I believe."
While another instance of Ms Wandelt's recordings with Mrs McCann's voicemail expressed: "Imagine there is a small chance that I'm her? What then? Is that not important for you?"
"I do not need money, I maintain a living here in Poland, I only wish to know," the recording stated.
The tribunal was told that by means of electronic messages, text messages and calls, Ms Wandelt demanded a biological test, transmitted childhood photos to her phone in a bid to show a similarity to Mrs McCann's missing daughter, and stated to have "flashbacks" from a youth with the McCanns.
Robert Jones, an intelligence analyst with law enforcement who compiled the information, informed the court there "seemed to lack any responses" from Mrs McCann.
Ms Wandelt furthermore contacted close associates of the McCanns, based on the communication logs.
On that date, Mr McCann responded to a call from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, saying she had "the wrong phone."
During that incident Ms Wandelt left a message on Mrs McCann's voicemail declaring "I will persist and I plan to establish my position."
The court heard Mrs Spragg established a connection online with Ms Wandelt prior to assisting her on a trip to the McCanns' residence in the county in that winter.
Call logs showed Mrs Spragg had reached out via WhatsApp to Mrs McCann to state the media had characterized Ms Wandelt as "emotionally disturbed" but that she ought to be taken seriously in the period preceding the visit to Rothley, that area, in December 2024.
The court was told message exchanges between the two defendants, in November 2024, discussing attempting to acquire Mrs McCann's genetic material from her bins or from utensils at a restaurant.
"We need to make a stand," the co-defendant informed Ms Wandelt.
On the occasion of the trip to their home, the defendant transmitted a message which stated: "We are sitting adjacent to the McCanns' house with our vehicle dark like detectives. I desired to do this with someone else I didn't imagine I would be engaged in this with the McCanns."
The proceedings proceeds.
